Spaghetti...I admit I've been "cheating" and using Prego for years...adding a little of this or a little of that, probably to make myself feel better about using jarred sauce...I know...issues...but nevertheless, I have come across a "from scratch" spaghetti recipe that you will love! This came from a family friend in Jackson.
2 lbs ground sirloin
4 (16 oz) cans tomato sauce
2 cups celery, chopped fine
2 cups onion, chopped fine
1 cup green pepper, chopped fine
4 t. salt (I used about 2 1/2 or so)
4 t. chili powder
1/2 t. black pepper
1/2 t. thyme (I used about 1/4...don't love thyme)
4 cloves garlic, chopped or crushed
2 bay leaves
Parmesan cheese for topping
Angel hair pasta, cooked
Brown meat with the celery, onion, pepper, and garlic. Drain. Add the rest of ingredients except the Parmesan cheese and angel hair. Simmer covered 1 1/2 hours. You can add a little more water while cooking, to desired consistency, and let it cook down again.
Serve over angel hair pasta. Top with fresh, grated Parmesan cheese!
(and don't worry, Prego will still have a presence in my pantry:))
